Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center and the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, along with a group of asylum seekers, have sued the Trump Administration in order to block Executive Order 14165, which alters the asylum-seeking process. The plaintiffs argued that this executive order violates the 1980 Refugee Act by barring certain migrants from applying for asylum based on the method by which they entered the country. The plaintiffs also argued that the executive order, which lowers the criteria by which a non-citizen may be removed from the U.S., will lead to a greater amount of asylum seekers being sent back to countries in which they will face torture and persecution.
