Summary
The plaintiffs in this case, Travis LeBlanc and Edward Felten, were Members of the U.S. Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB), an independent executive agency established by the 9/11 Commission Act to ensure that anti-terrorism efforts do not violate the privacy and civil liberties of Americans. On January 21, 2025, LeBlanc, Felten, and another Democratic Member of the Board received a one-sentence email notifying them that they had been fired from the PCLOB. LeBlanc and Felten have sued the Trump administration, claiming that their termination violates the 9/11 Commission Act by failing to provide good cause for removal and also violates plaintiffs' due process rights. LeBlanc and Felten ask the court to declare their termination unlawful and prevent the defendants from removing them from office.
