Summary
On January 24, 2025, President Trump fired 17 Inspectors General (IG) across the federal government. In response, eight former IGs of the Departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Health and Human Services, State, Agriculture, Education, and Labor, and the Small Business Administration sued the Trump Administration to challenge their terminations. The plaintiffs argue that President Trump violated the Inspectors General Act by failing to provide 30 days notice to Congress and failing to state substantive and detailed reason for each IGs removal. The plaintiffs request that the court declare their terminations unlawful and restore plaintiffs to their previous positions.
