Summary
Journalists, unions, and nonprofit media organizations have sued the Trump administration for the shuttering of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). The plaintiffs argue that defendants' conduct in dismantling USAGM violates the First Amendment, the Administrative Procedure Act, the Statutory Firewall under 22 U.S.C. §§ 6202 and 6204, the separation of powers, and the Appointments Clause, and is otherwise ultra vires. On April 4, 2025, this case was transferred to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (1:25-cv-02390).
